The NKC Hornet JV squad picked up their first victory in nearly two calendar years overtaking the Winnetonka Griffins 10-6 at Winnetonka on Thursday. In a stiff breeze and wintery temperatures, the Hornets put together a complete performance with lots of offense, strong starting and relief pitching as well as good defense.

Noah Devero threw four solid innings to start, limiting the Griffins to six hits and four runs. He struck out nine and only walked two. Ray Tyner struggled in the top of the fifth and Coach Tim Bruns quickly pulled the cord to bring in Casey Cayton for a three inning save. Cayton allowed only one hit in 31 pitches. He struck out three allowing no runs.

Defense was also on the menu for the Hornets as Sebastian Guzman had a great tag at home late in the game to stop a potential Tonka rally. The JV squad had been hampered by the big inning, and tonight, there were able to limit the damage significantly.

But the offensive star of the game was Hunter Tysdal. Behind chants from his teammates of “ONE MAN ARMY,” Tysdal went 2-3 with 3 RBI. He also had a stolen base and some… creative base-running during the game.
