Game Story

Junior Grant Lorenzen went the distance in Game 1 of a double dip against the Cameron Dragons. Lorenzen dazzled both on the mound and at the plate scattering six runs on seven hits striking out nine Dragons as well as going 4-5 with two doubles to help his own cause. Lorenzen wasn’t the only one who brought the lumber (aluminum?) in the ten run outburst. Senior Kyle Gaines also had four hits and four RBIs. Blake Eversole and Bryan Gallen both notched two hits, and Konnor Thompson had two RBI on a huge single in the game.

The Hornets wiggled out of trouble in the third inning when Cameron loaded the bases, but a grounder and a caught stealing allowed Lorenzen to escape with only a run. He showed some fatigue in the fifth allowing three runs off of a three-run bomb by Sam West, but struck out the next batter on a sick curveball to end the inning. Lorenzen wouldn’t allow another run and allowed only one other baserunner in the back two innings on his way to his first victory of the season.

The Hornets scored early and often plating three runs in the first and two runs in the second. Gaines and Gallen got RBI’s in both of the first two innings and Gaines was only a fly out to left field shy of a perfect night. The top of the order definitely delivered with the first four batters in the lineup scoring all 10 runs with the exception of Devin Petersen in the sixth after he reached on an error.

But the night certainly belonged to Lorenzen who dropped his ERA to 0.91 and now leads the team in hits with 11.

Prior to the game, a moment of silence was held for Northtown Senior Erick Estrada who was killed on Sunday. The Hornet baseball team and its fans send their sincerest condolences to his family and his classmates.
