Recap

Northtown dropped their fourth straight to the Fort Osage Indians on Wednesday 7-0 on a cold, rain-soaked afternoon. As has been the case for several games this season, one rough inning proved to be the deciding factor in the contest. This rough inning featured an error, bases loaded, two hit by pitches, three walks and a tailor made double-play ball that hit the umpire where the sun doesn’t shine. Such is baseball when you can’t catch a break.

Tyler Hampton danced out of jams in his first three innings including bases loaded in the second and third, but that caught up to him and the hornets in the fourth as he allowed six runs in the inning before giving way to Brayden Sell.

The game featured a fairly steady drizzle/rain throughout much of the game and conditions were about as bad as could be deemed playable. Both teams struggled with muddy cleats, slick grass and uniforms that will require thank you cards to moms after being asked to wash them. It even featured Coach West playing groundskeeper during the game.

For the Indians, Jacob Merithew seemed to get stronger as the game went on pitching six innings, allowing no runs, four hits and striking out six Hornets. Brayden Sell looked good in relief pitching two and a third innings, striking out two, allowing three hits, no walks and one home run to deep right-center off of Bryce Dye.

The loss comes during a stretch of road games. They lost a nail-biter to Oak Park 2-1 the night before and will play Cameron two games on Friday up in Cameron. Fort Osage grabs their first victory of the season and moves to 1-4. Northtown falls to 0-4 still seeing their first “W.”
