Recap

It took four days to finish, but for Northtown, it was worth the wait. Tied at 1 when storm clouds rolled in Monday over T-Bones Ballpark, it looked like finding a spot to finish the game would be impossible. NKC’s graduation was Tuesday, Oak Park’s was Wednesday and the deadline to finish regular season was Friday.

But Oak Park traveled to Macken to finish the final three innings on Thursday and it was a trip they’d probably want back. Errors killed the Northmen committing four. Only one of the Hornets six runs were earned. The Hornets managed to work around the rain delay, however, and kept their defensive errors in check.

The fifth inning had OP take a 2-1 lead with Konnor Thompson being relieved by Noah Devero. Devero would right the ship and get it to the sixth when the Hornets offense started what would be a very good night. They scored five in the frame allowing Anian Nicolas to close it out in the seventh thanks to two ridiculous catches in left field by Konnor Thompson – one diving forward and one flying backward – to record the final two outs of the game.

The win marks a series sweep over the Northmen for the first time since 2014. It also sealed Oak Park into fourth place in the conference standings behind Fort Osage, Northtown and Raytown.
