Recap

The Hornets are quickly developing a dynamic duo. Monday found the Hornets returning to warmer weather and the friendly confines to defeat the Raytown Blue Jays 7-3 in the most complete game the squad has put together.

Another dazzling outing from Konnor Thompson allowing only one earned run, striking out 6 and spraying around four hits followed by two innings of one run baseball by Brock McLaughlin. The freshman fanned four allowing only two hits. Thompson now has a ridiculous 27 strike outs through three appearances.

There were also flashes of the leather as well including a streaking catch in right field by Tim Moment and a spectacular stop and throw by Anian Nicolas at third.

The bats also were able to warm up after the frozen inning on Saturday. Hornet hitters combined for 12 hits including a double by Nicolas and multi-hit games by Austin Creekmore, Nicolas, Casey Cayton and Konnor Thompson who helped his own cause with two big RBI’s.

Brayden Sell, Cayton and Grand Lorenzen also picked up RBI’s in the game. The most impressive offensive inning for NKC was the fifth, when Northtown sent nine batters to the place, scoring three runs and notching five hits.

The three phases of pitching, offense, and defense were definitely clicking to defeat the Blue Jays who were a strong condender to win the conference.

The Hornets improve to 3-4 overall and share a 2-2 conference record with Raytown.

Their next game will be on the road at always tough Fort Osage on Wednesday.
