Mother Nature needs to take some tips from the Hornets because they are red hot right now. Wednesday, the Varsity squad capped off their third and fourth straight victories against Ruskin (18-13) and Chrisman (12-2). The sweep makes the second straight doubleheader sweep for the club and brings their winning streak to four. The squad has now already matched their win total all of last year through just the 8th game bringing their record to .500.
Game 1 was dominated by pitcher Konnor Thompson and shortstop Kyle Gaines. Thompson went the distance in the five inning affair shutting down the Eagles to three runs on three hits. The defense also recorded their first error-free game of the year. But offensively, it was all about Kyle Gaines. EIGHT RBI’s in four innings. He hit a 3-run homer, a 3-run double, and a 2-run double to clip the Eagles wings.
Game 2 featured what might be an evolving style of baseball for Coach Dotson. And since it seems to be based on Billy-ball, we’re going to need to be contractually obligated to call this Bubba-Ball. The Hornets won this game on the power of the bunt. Two in particular, bunts by Tim Moment and Brayden Sell both set up big innings for the Hornets. But others including Anian Nicolas-Zamora, Andrew Mora, and even Kyle Gaines squared around during the game at one point or another. Six different Hornets had RBI including Tyler Hampton with three and Kyle Gaines picked up three more making 11 for the night.
The Hornets take their winning streak right back to Macken tomorrow night as they face off against the Staley Falcons for a pair.
Game Stories and box scores will be up for both games soon.
